The blessed month of Shaban is approaching with all of its blessings and rewards for us. It’s indeed one of the gifts for us from our beloved ALLAH swt. Prophet MUHAMMAD s.a.w.w used to give this month the most importance with respect to the worship. He s.a.w.w used to observe fast and shabah RA used to do the same.
Bukhari : Book 3 : Volume 31 : Hadith 190
Narrated 'Aisha: Allah's Apostle used to fast till one would say that he would never stop fasting, and he would abandon fasting till one would say that he would never fast. I never saw Allah's Apostle fasting for a whole month except the month of Ramadan, and did not see him fasting in any month more than in the month of Sha'ban.
In another hadith, the importance of this month is revealed in these words:
Bukhari : Book 3 : Volume 31 : Hadith 191
Narrated 'Aisha: The Prophet never fasted in any month more than in the month of Sha'ban. He used to say, "Do those deeds which you can do easily, as Allah will not get tired (of giving rewards) till you get bored and tired (of performing religious deeds)." The most beloved prayer to the Prophet was the one that was done regularly (throughout the life) even if it were little. And whenever the Prophet offered a prayer he used to offer it regularly.
So, it is a gift from ALLAH swt to us to earn immense reward by praying and worshiping by following the Sunnah of our beloved prophet MUHAMMAD s.a.w.w. HE s.a.w.w tell us to do the good deeds that are easy for us not difficult i.e. the good deeds that we can do easily without putting ourselves into any trouble. Regarding the fasting in the month of Shaban, there is a hadith of MUHAMMAD s.a.w.w narrated in dawud as:
Dawud : Book 13 : Hadith 2330
Narrated AbuHurayrah: AbdulAziz ibn Muhammad said: Abbad ibn Kathir came to Medina and went to the assembly of al-Ala'. He caught hold of his hand and made him stand and said: O Allah, he narrates a tradition from his father on the authority of AbuHurayrah who reported the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) as saying: When the middle of Sha'ban comes, do not fast. Al-Ala' said: O Allah, my father narrated this tradition on the authority of AbuHurayrah from the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him).
To earn reward is our own duty, we can ignore it and we can realize this blessing given to us and can fill our book of deeds with good deeds.
The primary purpose to do good deeds should not be only to earn sawab but the primary reason to act good should be, in fact, it must be only to seek the pleasure of ALLAH swt because we do not know which of our act becomes a license for our entry in heaven.
There are some bidaahs related to this blessed month that are nowhere found in quran or sahih haidth and are only supported by the fabricated or weak ahadith. These bidaats are the shab-e barat and the fasting the following day. The concept of shab-e barat was never part of din and it should not be considered as part of din in any way.
Keep yourself safe from the wrong acts and false worship activities that has no value in the eyes of ALLAH swt since HE never ordered us to do that, and earn the pleasure of ALLAH swt by worshiping HIM in the permissible way.
