Luck means fate or qadar. It is either good or bad. Belief in qadar is the necessary part of faith in islam. It is so because ALLAh swt has created us and everything related to us is written in loh-e mehfooz. The Creator knows everything so our life is not a mystery for Him rather it is a mystery for us. The unknown of future makes us conscious and worried because we are not aware of what is coming to hit us in the future. This unknown is called our qadar or luck.
Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w said to seek refuge of ALLAH swt against bad fate.
Bukhari Volume 8, Book 77, Number 613:
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Take refuge with Allah from the difficulties of severe calamities, from having an evil end and a bad fate and from the malicious joy of your enemies."
Another hadith says: Muslim Book 014, Number 4023:
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Do not take vows, for a vow has no effect against Fate; it is only from the miserly that something is extracted.
This means that vows do not change what is written in fate but the prayers do. If we invoke ALLAH to take care of our matters with honesty and sincerity, we should be relieved after that because it is only ALLAH swt who takes care of every matter.
People are tested and tried. There is no man on face of earth that did not face the unexpected and unimagined. Experiencing good and bad events is another thing but to stand firm having full faith in ALLAH is another thing. Here lies the difference between the question of all-written and the question free will.
ALLAH swt says in Quran 2.155
“Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere,"
So, ALLAH tries some with good luck and some with bad luck, but the good luck does not mean that the book of deeds is been filled with good, and bad luck does not mean we are less blessed. Whatever happens, if one stands firm and fear ALLAH, his time of transition passes and good times come.
Fate is the matter which arises many different questions, as to why ALLAh has created bad people, why good people suffer, why is their hunger and war? These are the questions that can weaken iman so they should not be thought. First thing to be born in mind is that ALLAH swt has created us, HE knows what is good for us and what is bad, whatever comes to us has a purpose, either we learn a lesson or we are exposed to a truth that otherwise we could not know.
ALLAH swt says in Quran: 13:011
By the orders of Allah, the guardian angels accord protection. They keep watch in front of and behind everyone. Surely, Allah does not alter the Fate of a nation till they change their own selves. If Allah intends evil for a people, there is no escape from it. They have no guardian besides Allah!
This holy verse talks it straightforward that if people are not interested to change their fate, they will not be bestowed with a good fate. How is it to ask for forgiveness and then continue with the same sinful routine all the time?
Fate is a matter in our hands too, and its source is ALLAH swt, if we stand firm, do good, and strive, we only add to our good fate, if we do not do so, there will be nothing good waiting for us.
