Ziker or remembrance of ALLAH swt is to take HIS name in every matter at every step. We are blessed with countless blessings of ALLAH swt and it is our duty, in turn, to thank HIM for what HE has given us, and HE has given us more than we deserved. If we look at our lives, we will see how blessed we are than many people. ALLAH swt says that we should be thankful to Him all the time, and when a hardship comes it is to be born with patience keeping full trust in ALLAH swt.
ALLAH swt said in Quran: Al-Baqarah 2:152
“Therefore remember Me. I will remember you. Be grateful to Me and never show Me ingratitude"
ALLAH swt does not put any IF and BUT when we pray, instead we are bestowed with even what we do not even imagine to ask or get. If ALLAH swt loves us so much, we should be at least grateful to HIM for HIS blessings. The same thing is said in the verse mentioned above. ALLAh says if we remember ALLAh HE will remember us, if we are grateful to HIM HE will bless us with even more. This is what is meant by Ziker or remembrign ALLAH.
In another place ALLAh swt says: Al-Ahzab 33:41
"O you who believe, remember ALLAH with much remembrance."
The verse quoted above means that it will take us only to not forget the presence of ALLAH, if we want to be true believers. But if we are not, then we will not remember HIS presence and will never be able to save us from sins.
In surah ahzab, ALLAH swt says: 33:35
"And the men and women who remember ALLAH frequently, ALLAH has prepared for them forgiveness and great reward."
So, just by being remembering ALLAH swt, we can save us from hell fire because ALLAH swt has said in the above verse that those men and women who do not forget ALLAH swt in their daily matters, they will be rewarded.
In another place, it is said that : Al-Araf 7:205
"And remember your Lord by your tongue and within yourself, humbly and in awe, without loudness, by words in the morning and in the afternoon, and be not among those who are neglectful."
The above verse talks about a very important and noteworthy thing. We are told to remember ALLAH swt with humbleness and fearing HIS anger. We can remember HIM with our tongues but with due respect, and we can remember Him in our hearts, keeping His respect in mind. So, those who shout and then say that they were calling ALLAH, (qawals, naat khawans and some sufis) they should better read this verse. ALLAH swt is the most high, and HE deserves all our respect, and to respect HIM means to call Him and remember Him with fear and with respect. This emotion and feeling can only be felt for ALLAH.
Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w said: - At-Tirmithi 5/459, Ibn Majah 2/1245. See Al-Albani, Sahih Ibn Majah 2/316 and Sahih At-Tirmithi 3/139.
"Shall I not inform you of the best of your works, the purest of them with your Master (ALLAH), the loftiest of them in your stations, the thing that is better for you than spending gold and silver (in charity), and better for you than meeting your enemies and slaying them and being slain by them?" They (the Companions) said, "Of course!" He said, "Remembrance of ALLAH, the Most high."
And He s.a.w.w said : Al-Bukhari 8/171, Muslim 4/2061
"ALLAH the Most High says, 'I am with my slave when he thinks of Me and I am with him when he mentions Me. For if he mentions Me to himself, I mention him to Myself; and if he mentions Me in a gathering, I mention him in superior gathering. If he approaches Me by a hand's width, I approach him by an arm's length, I approach him by two arms length. And if he comes to me walking, I hasten to him swiftly.'"
Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w also said that following religion does not mean to make it difficult to follow, so the easier we take islam the better will it be for us to follow.
The Prophet (pbuh) said: "He who remembers his Lord and he who does not remember his Lord are like the living and the dead." - Al-Bukhari, cf., Al-Asqalani, Fathul-Bari 11/208; Muslim 1/539 with the wording "The house in which ALLAH is remembered and the house in which ALLAH is not remembered is like the living and the dead."
To remember ALLAH swt, and to ask for HIS help in every matter of life no matter simple or complex is what true believers do. The life of our beloved prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w is the best example for us to see how He s.a.w.w kept Himself busy in doing good and remembered ALLAH in every matter, all the time.
May ALLAH swt guides us to the right path and gives us the tongues which does not tire remembering HIM.
