Narrated 'Imran bin Husain:
The Prophet said, "I looked into Paradise and found that the majority of its dwellers were the poor people, and I looked into the (hell) Fire and found that the majority of its dwellers were women.
There is much debate over this haidth that the women will be more in number in hell then men. This hadith is taken as a tool by both the non muslims and some muslims. The non muslims debate over the ill treatment with women in islam and say that women have no place in islam and in heaven. And some muslims who take this hadith as a weapon show this to the ladies to show them that they are weak, and they need to be animals if they want to be in heavens. Both are wrong, because islam is the religion, the most just and the most liberal. The rights enjoyed by the muslim women in islam are so much that those rights cannot be found in any other religion neither can nay worldly law be as good as they Islamic rules are.
It was islam that gave women the level of respect they deserved, it was islam that treated them as human beings and gave them honor and respect. Before islam, women were treated like commodity, and even now in some places women are treated like commodity, which is not only wrong but a grave sin and deviation from the law of ALLAH. Anyway, the issue is the dwellers of hell. The hadith quoted in the beginning of the article only talks about the number of women in hell. This hadith is not with any logic or any further statements. Here is another hadith that has some detail.
Muslim :: Book 1 : Hadith 142
It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah b. Umar that the Messenger of Allah observed: O womenfolk, you should give charity and ask much forgiveness for I saw you in bulk amongst the dwellers of hell. A wise lady among them said: Why is it, Messenger of Allah, that our folk is in bulk in hell? Upon this the Holy Prophet observed: You curse too much and are ungrateful to your spouses. I have seen none lacking in common sense and failing in religion but (at the same time) robbing the wisdom of the wise, besides you. Upon this the woman remarked: What is wrong with our common sense and with religion? He (the Holy Prophet) observed: Your lack of common sense (can be well judged from the fact) that the evidence of two women is equal to one man, that is a proof of the lack of common sense, and you spend some nights (and days) in which you do not offer prayer and in the month of Ramadan (during the days) you do not observe fast, that is a failing in religion. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Abu Tahir with this chain of transmitters.
The above quoted hadith talks about the reason that why women are more in hell as the holy Prophet Muhammad sa.w.w saw during meraj.
This is a fact that most women go for that which they see, they do not like to use their common sense. Due to this reason, they often indulge in disputes and troubles. They do not like to listen to their husbands rather, like to pas their own judgments without giving a thought to the incidents. They like to curse and abuse much as compared to men. But this does not mean that women are bad, they are only weak in understanding and assessing. This is what has been talked in the hadith quoted above.
These hadiths are a warning to the women. If we were not told how could we know that we have those weaknesses? Instead of counting them as unequality or hurting over the hadiths, it should be taken as a command of guidance from ALLAh swt. ALLAH swt says several place sin Quran that nobody will be blessed or forgiven for the ranks or the merits or the riches oru the races or on any wordly basis except taqwa. And while saying so, ALLAH swt gave both men and women a chance to be mutaqi. These ahadith are an added advantage to the muslim women to correct their ways and overcome the weaknesses of personality. ALLAh swt has given us personalities with applications to change and mold. Now it’s up to us how we change ourselves.
These ahadith are not discriminatory in any way, rather they are an added tool fo guidance to the women, if they take care of their husbands, and their relatives and take care of the words that they utter, amd change their attitude in general, if they give a thought before passing judgments and assess the situation before saying anything, ALLAh swt will bless them and they wull be among the good people Inshallah. But if women keep grudges in their hearts and try to play tricks, they should recall the warning given to them by ALLAH swt through His beloved messenger Muhammad. S.a.w.w.
Islam is the religion of peace and humanity, the love found in this religion is found in no other religions. for example, in Christianity and Judaism, women are not treated even as animals. Before the feminism struck the west, it was said to be pride of men to beat their wives with sticks, the wives used to get beaten up daily by their husbands as a mark of loving husbands. They were not given any right to speak in the matters that were related to outside world. The sole purpose of girls was to find men and to serve them as animals. This is why we do not see any woman who could be taken as symbol of knowledge but there are many women in islam who were brave, knowledgeable and who are example for the muslim women.
We should feel happy because we are muslims, and before commenting we should think and try to get the logic behind the words. Something that can be read between the words should be read, not left unread.
